Rapid Prototyping Print E-mail

What is rapid prototyping?

Rapid prototyping converts exsisting design data or models quickly and directly into functioning prototypes. Several processes are available that construct the workpiece in layers from materials that are formless or neutrally shaped.

The prototype stage carries the highest financial risk for the product developer, enormous development, production and reworking costs can, however, be avoided by developing a successful prototype.

The rapid prototyping process comprises three fundamental sections:

1. Designing a model on a 3D-CAD/CAM system

2. Converting the model into a data format called STL format.

3. Physically constructing the model using the respective prototyping process
